The RAF Halton Archive
An Archive is a place where people can go to gather firsthand facts, data and evidence from letters, reports, notes, memos, photographs and other primary sources. Such information is the recorded memory and forms an important part
of our community, cultural, official and unofficial history.

In over 100 years that RAF Halton has been in existence, it has been the home of
No 1 School of Technical Training and the Trenchard Apprenticeship Scheme which
ran from 1922 and ended in 1993. It was also home to the Princess Mary’s RAF Hospital which officially opened in October 1927 and closed in March1996. For many years after the creation of the NHS, Halton Hospital took patients from the local population, among whom it had an outstanding reputation.

The RAF Halton Archive team maintain collections of documents or ‘records’ which
have been selected for permanent preservation because of their value as evidence or as a source of historical or other research. For current and former RAF personnel and their families, it preserves, honours and shares the stories of
their service. For visitors with an interest of modern history it makes the RAF story
relevant and stimulating. If you would like to learn more about the archive, or
perhaps have a query of special relevance to you and like some assistance please let
us know.
The archive is open to visitors on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 am till 3.30 pm.
For further information we can be contacted on 01296 620085 (please note the office is not permanently manned so please do leave a message and we will get back to you) or you can email us on trenchardarchive@btinternet.com.
